5 Great Wine Bars in Lyon in 2022

Lyon is the culinary capital of France and sits smack dab in between the amazing wine regions of Beaujolais and the Northern Rhône, so it’s no surprise that we have an incredible wine bar scene!

As a wine expert and chef living in Lyon, I love going out for a glass of wine during the evenings and on the weekends. While Lyon is blessed with many amazing wine bars, these are my favorites.

Best Wine Bars in Lyon France

Now there are so many great wine bars in Lyon that it was really hard to decide which ones to feature! I chose these bars to highlight based on a few criteria. Most importantly – good wine! A close second was friendliness. I’m not going to send you to anywhere that isn’t run by great people, and these are all places that are happy to welcome English speaking travelers. So without further ado, here are the bars!

A Lyon Wine Bar “Comme à la Maison”

Owners Bruno and Valerie at Le Vitis Bar in Lyon

Le Vitis Bar, Lyon 4

This is one of my local wine bars up here in Lyon’s Croix-Rousse neighborhood in the 4th arrondissement. Why do I love it? They feature local wines and make a mean cheese and charcuterie board stocked with only the best local products.

Owners Valerie and Bruno are super nice people, and they will always welcome you with a smile.

This place does get busy, so give them a call at +33 6 31 16 63 27 to reserve!

Open Tuesday through Saturday from 6pm to 12:30am at 131 Blvd de la Croix-Rousse, Lyon 69004.

A Wine Bar in Lyon Where You Blend Your Own Wine!

Les Assembleurs, Lyon 3

I love Les Assembleurs because of it’s incredible concept and gorgeous execution! This place is the only wine bar in France to serve exclusively wine on tap. These make their own wine all over the country and then create blends to order for the customers that walk through the door of this stunning open space right located near the Rhône river.

This is groundbreaking stuff, and they now provide kegs to bars all over the country. And of course, the wine is great! They are all low intervention single varietal wines that can then be recomposed into the classic blends we know and love, like a Bordeaux blend, or you can invent something new!

During the day there is a delicious market driven lunch menu that always has a fish and vegetarian option, and at night you can expect small sharing plates. Definitely want to reserve both for lunch or dinner, this spot is in demand. You can call +33 4 81 10 93 19 to make a reservation.

You can also buy wine to go!

Open Monday through Friday from 8am to midnight, and Saturday from 4pm to midnight. Lunch is Monday to Friday from 12 to 2pm, and dinner is Monday to Saturday from 7 to 9:45pm. You can find Les Assembleurs at 12 Rue Mazenod, Lyon 69003.

A Lyon Wine Bar with Over a Thousand Different Wines

Woman in a pink coat with a glass of wine descending into the spiral stairs at a Lyon wine bar Cave Cafe Terroir

La Cave Café Terroir

The little sister and nextdoor neighbor of Café Terroir, here you can enjoy small plates from one of the city’s most celebrated chefs, JF Périer-Têtedoi. These guys have an enormous collection of wine, over 1200 different references!

My favorite thing about this wine list is the extensive collection of totally reasonably priced Burgundy, which is normally an oxymoron. Nope, these guys really know what they’re doing and seek out treasures from the local regions of Burgundy, Beaujolais, and the Northern Rhône. You’ll find some wines from the Jura and the Alps on this list but nothing from too far afield!

I highly recommend if you are a group of 6 or more booking the private cellar room downstairs, that’s where the party is at.

La Cave Café Terroir is open from Tuesday to Saturday for lunch between 12pm and 2pm and dinner from 6pm to midnight at 5 Rue Montcharmont, 69002 Lyon.

You can reserve by phone at +33 9 52 52 51 38 or online.

A Natural Wine Bar in Lyon

Odessa Comptoir, Lyon 1

This is a local favorite across the board, funnily enough with an American owner and an American chef, so you’re sure to get great service in English!

Odessa Comptoir specializes in natural wine and has a big focus on the amazing wines of our local region Beaujolais. This is a lively spot after work and you’ll see groups of friends spilling out into the street. Friendly, warm and cozy, this place is very cool.

Chef Robert makes wonderful small plates to go with a glass or 3 of wine and even makes his own bread, which is excellent!

Odessa Comptoir is open from Monday through Saturday from 6pm to midnight.

You can book online and get directions via google maps. The bar lives at 14 Rue René Leynaud, 69001 Lyon.

An Organic Wine Bar in Lyon

Le Bar à Vin Bio

This wine bar right next to the Lyon Opera House offers only organic selections. With over 200 organic wines to choose from, Le Bar à Vin Bio celebrates the wines of our local regions but also features other wines from around France and a few world wines too!

They also have a fabulous wood fired oven where they make pizzas and serve up a spectacular cheese and charcuterie board.

The owner Yann is super nice and will always be happy to welcome you. This place is super centrally located and has plenty of outdoor seating in the summer.

You can call +33 4 78 28 64 10 or reserve a table online and get directions on google maps.

Le Bar à Vin Bio can be found at 17 Rue Désirée, 69001 Lyon.
